I tried running in a lighter shoe to see if racing tomorrow is realistic. Unfortunately the tighter toe box and shallower sole meant more movement was transferred to the toe, so it felt quite uncomfortable. No sharp pain, but I didn’t want to risk aggravating things. Looks like I’ll be sticking to easier runs in big shoes, supplemented by cycling, for at least a few more days.
