I’ve given up on the C25K programme. But don’t worry, not in the way I feared I might before I started – by giving up on running in entirely. Quite the opposite!
After my first twenty minute run as part of the C25K programme went so well, I was dismayed to see it was back to intervals at the start of week six. I enjoyed the longer run and much preferred settling in to a steady rhythm than the stop/start of C25K until now. Therefore I have decided to ditch C25K, and from now on just aim to do a steady run slowly building the time up towards an hour.
With this run I set out to just run as long as I felt comfortable. At the fifteen minute mark I still felt surprisingly fresh, so thought I might be able to plough on towards 30 minutes and indeed I managed to run the entirety of my loop in just under that time. I was tempted to stop running several times during the last few minutes, but by that stage was determined to reach the end of my route.
Unfortunately RunKeeper was going a bit haywire, telling me my pace was anything between 5 and 20 minutes per mile, even though I was running at what felt like a steady pace. I ended up running 3½ miles at an average pace of 8:23/mile which I’m really proud of given where I started at the beginning of January. Let’s see if I can keep it up…
