After giving up my HM ambitions I resolved to have at least another week off running, which turned in to two after a rather prolonged cold laid me low for most of last week. Finally at the weekend, when I was ready to get out again I managed to somehow hurt my shoulder making basic movement painful. Quite a few weeks. Thankfully the shoulder pain is subsiding now and indeed feels much better after this run. Ankle felt fine, vague nagging at the very end but no pain and felt 100% normal afterwards. Hopefully I can slowly ease back in to things now. Won’t go above 4 miles this week no matter what. Promise!

Faster paced test run
Test failed. Ankle started to twinge at about four miles, so gave up to prevent possibly injuring myself again. Bristol HM is definitely off now I think. More rest, and hopefully I can slowly get back to running over the next few weeks. Pretty annoying!

Pretty positive first outdoor run in almost two weeks. No pain, slight tightness towards the end but felt fine afterwards. Was tempted to do another lap of the two mile loop but erred on the side of caution. I’m pleased that the ankle seems to be continuing to heal even with the running I’ve been doing this week. Will try the six mile run home on Monday and I think it’ll then be decision time about the Bristol HM next week…

After a week of rest (except some cycling and rowing at the gym) I decided to give the ankle a go on the treadmill. I took it a mile at a time, briefly pausing to see how it felt walking. Got to three miles without any pain, I felt like I could carry on but stopped to be on the safe side. Not out of the woods yet, but cautiously optimistic. See how it feels tomorrow, but hopefully can extend up to 4 or 5 miles on Wednesday. Bristol HM might still be on!?

Local loop to test the ankle out today, after 4 days of rest. Felt ok but not perfect, still a bit of a nagging ache. Stopped after 3.5 miles to be on the safe side, hopefully the exercise will have helped the healing and some more rest tomorrow will clear things for a full 10K run on Wednesday. Very frustrating!

After Monday’s run where my ankle niggle was still noticeable I spent the last two days fighting against my desire to get out and run. Yesterday it felt fine but I decided to give it another day to be safe. Today the run felt fine up until the last mile or so where some soreness was noticeable but no real pain. After icing it for 20 minutes after the run it now feels totally fine with no twinges at all (unlike Monday when I could still feel it after ice) so I’m hopefully with a day of rest tomorrow it might be ok for my longer run Saturday. Will have to play that one by ear and see how I get on…

Had a bit of a niggle on the inside of my left leg just above the ankle after my LSR at the weekend, so was a bit unsure about running today. It felt fine walking though, and I did some heel dips without any trouble so decided to go for it. Felt a little sore still but didn’t get any worse through the run. Fingers crossed it’s nothing major.

Work to home pace run
With four weeks to go until the Bristol HM I have switched my tempo runs from faster than HM efforts to HM pace efforts. My route from work to home to difficult to judge pace wise because of the hills at the end, so did first four relatively flat (but slightly uphill) miles at HM pace, then the remainder at roughly the same heart rate as the first four miles. Pleased with effort given the heat today.
