Long Run
LSR down to the City
LSR around the Hampstead Heath trails
Lots of up and down the muddy trails of Hampstead Heath and Golders Hill Park, hence the slow pace. Lots of fun though, and makes a nice change from pounding the streets.

Distance felt comfortable, knee felt good. Overall a decent last LSR – starting to feel excited about the half marathon!

Knee still giving a slight nagging ache as the mileage builds, but far better than it has been. Two week taper for the HM starts next week, so with the reduced mileage it will hopefully continue to heal well.

I decided to skip my schedules easy run yesterday, which I think was definitely the right decision. My knee felt fine most of this run, slight nagging towards the end but no pain and much better than it felt at the end of my last run, or at the 16 mile point of my run last week.
I’m pretty pleased with the run itself, the 10K in the middle is designed to simulate the end of the HM and I felt pretty good – heart rate a little higher than I would hope for the pace, but it was quite windy. Not a great course, quite twisty and potentially quite short. I apparently ran a 42:32 10K, a PB (!), but my Garmin measured only 5.77 miles. The Garmin went a little screwy on some points of the course, but I still think it was probably short.
Hopefully with a rest day tomorrow my knee will be fine for the next week, my last “big” week before the HM taper…

Had to add this manually, as the Garmin 620 fucked up yet again. Garmin should be embarrassed this watch is still full of bugs nearly a year after launch. Anyway, reasonable run considering I’ve been feeling a little under the weather and quite tired. I was supposed to do the Thames Meander HM this morning as a training run, but had a sore throat and felt exhausted, so figured a few more hours in bed would be better for me. Glad to have a rest day tomorrow.

I’m deliberately including the hills up to Hampstead and Highgate in my LSRs at the moment, as I think they help with my endurance compared to the flatter LSRs I was doing before the Hackney Half.
