11 mile LSR

Because of plans for the weekend I brought my long run forward to today and tacked on a long detour around Hampstead Heath to my usual run from work to home, bringing it up to 11 miles. I did it at a nice slow pace and didn’t really struggle at all, though my legs were definitely starting to ache towards the end!

1k intervals at sub 8 min/mile

After a few weeks building up the mileage in my legs following the knee injury, I felt it was time to aim for some speed today so did some 1km intervals at my former 10K pace. It felt good to run at a decent speed again, and I coped fine with the intervals. I’m still a bit paranoid about my knee so out of caution (and a threatening looking cloud I’ll be honest!) stopped after four miles, but fingers crossed all seems fine and I plan to aim for a longer session on Thursday. Overall though I’m pretty pleased with my first speed session in a while.

Another run back home from work

The past two days I have run home from work in an effort to avoid any potentially busy tube trains because of the Olympics here in London. Yesterday was a bit slow as I ran with my backpack on which I don’t like very much, but today was a much faster. Especially when you take in to account the last two miles consist mainly of hills, including the rather nasty slog up Archway Road towards Highgate! I’m nowhere near the fitness I was at when I ran my 10K, but I can already feel a difference since I started back again, and I’m already managing to up the mileage so hopefully with some more work I’ll get there.
